Year 5

Welcome to Year 5

In Year 5, we begin to prepare children for the challenges of Year 6 and the transition to Secondary school. The children get an exciting opportunity to experience Secondary school in the summer term.

As part of their preparation, we nurture the children to become independent learners as they thrive when they are engaged in their own learning and have responsibility for it. Through a range of exciting topics across the year, such as Earth and beyond, the children get to use their talents and creativity to improve their knowledge and skills in a way that suits them. Please see our curriculum map to view all of the topics we cover this year.

Year 5 routines:
Spellings are given out on Friday to be practiced at home. The children are then tested on their spellings at school the following Friday.

Homework menus are given out at the beginning of each term and uploaded to Google Classroom. The children choose an item off the menu to do each week. Additional homework such as Maths, Writing and grammar will be handed out on Friday and is to be returned the following Thursday.

Reading at home is really important to help the children improve their reading skills and widen their vocabulary. Please could you listen to your child read and sign their diary once they have finished the book. The children should ideally change their book twice a week.

PE takes place on Wednesday and Thursday. Please could children have full PE kit (including jogging bottoms) in school at all times.

We hope that the children will enjoy the year, always striving to be the best that they can be so that they are ready for their transition into Year 6 and the added responsibilities that come with this.
