Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

We have an exciting year ahead for your child and we are sure that they will enjoy the topics that we are covering. Year 2 is the last year of Key Stage 1 and the children will be formally assessed on their learning in May. Please see our curriculum overview of the subjects and exciting topics that will be taught in Year 2.

Children will be ‘set’ for their literacy RWI lesson and will receive spellings to learn weekly based on a particular sound. In addition, after Christmas we will be sending Handwriting practise home weekly.

Reading books will be changed twice a week. We listen to the children read every day, as part of their Read, Write Inc lesson. We will also listen to the children read their home reader regularly and review their book level each term.

Thank you in advance for supporting your child with regular reading at home.

Finally, it is all about the children: their well being, their happiness and their education and we would like to say, ‘A big welcome to Year 2.’

If you require any more information, please feel free to pop in and see me .
