Year 2 enjoyed learning about Northern Ireland recently. They located the country on the map and learnt to recognise the flag. They then learnt more about some famous places, historical events and legends, such as Belfast, the building of the Titanic and The Giant’s Causeway respectively.
The children thoroughly enjoyed learning more about Northern Ireland, being especially interested in the story of the Titanic and the legend behind the Giant’s Causeway. It was lovely to see the children building their own ‘Giant’s Causeway’ during their playtime using a range of stones and logs, and acting out the legend!
However, their favourite part of the lesson was learning more about Irish dancing and having the chance to learn some traditional steps and combining them into a short routine. There were many smiles in the classroom when they danced this short routine to a traditional Irish reel.
The children finished the lesson by creating some posters and artwork about Northern Ireland.
Thank you Miss McCutcheon for teaching us about your home country!
