St. Cuthbert’s Shakespeare Ambassadors have been working hard this year to promote Shakespeare within our school. We think learning about Shakespeare and having the opportunity to rehearse and perform Shakespeare’s plays is very important because…
- It helps to increase our confidence.
- It inspires us to write and perform our own plays.
- It helps us to understand and express our emotions.
- We can develop teamwork skills, supporting each other as a cast.
- We gain knowledge about one of England’s most famous writers and playwrights.
- It helps to improve our Literacy skills.
- It helps us to sympathise and empathise with other people and understand things from other people’s points of view.
- It can improve memory skills.
- It allows us to be creative.
- We can explore how plays are rehearsed, performed and how professional theatres work.
With this in mind, our Ambassadors have created some fun activity packs for the children to complete to help them learn more about Shakespeare and become more aware of some of his plays. Read what they have to say below:
Hi, I am a Lead Shakespeare Ambassador for St. Cuthbert’s. Both Lead Shakespeare Ambassadors attended a Shakespeare Ambassador training course before Christmas and we explored ideas on how we could encourage children to participate in lots of different Shakespeare activities. In our Y6 Shakespeare performance earlier in the year, I played Benvolio.
We have made some fun packs for the children of St. Cuthbert’s. They are full of activities and games to help them learn more about the story of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and about Shakespeare. In the Year 1 and 2 pack, there are some colouring pages to fill in. There are also mazes you have to get through to find Romeo and Juliet. You can also design your own mask for the ball which Romeo and Juliet go to. Click on the link below to print your pack. Thank you for participating Year 1 and 2!
Hi, I am also a Lead Shakespeare Ambassador for St. Cuthbert’s. Our job is to do activities with other children in the school to help them understand the importance of learning about and performing Shakespeare. I played Juliet in our Y6 performance at the Gala Theatre.
In the Year 3 and 4 pack, it has designing masks, word searches and colouring in pages. I hope that you enjoy the pack and that you are more educated about Shakespeare. Thank you for taking part Year 3 and 4!
Hi, I am a Deputy Shakespeare Ambassador for St. Cuthbert’s. I played Romeo in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ earlier in the year. I had so much fun and it was an amazing experience. I think performing Shakespeare is so important and that it should be taught in all schools.
In the Year 5 and 6 pack, there is an activity on unscrambling the names of some Shakespeare plays. There is also a writing activity to do based on ‘Romeo and Juliet’. You can also design your own mask for the masquerade ball in ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Have fun!
Hi, I am also a Deputy Shakespeare Ambassador for St. Cuthbert’s. I played Mercutio in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ last year. I had so much fun and I also think that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to perform in a real theatre. Although Shakespeare often wrote tragedies, his plays are always fun to act out!
When we performed the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ play, we travelled to the Gala Theatre in Durham and performed in front of over 100 people! When we got to the Gala Theatre, we had several rehearsals to get us ready for the big performance. I really enjoyed acting as Mercutio in the play because it was a very exciting part.
We hope you enjoy completing the activity packs!
