Opening our packages – KS1 French partnership

Children in Year 2 are thoroughly enjoying their French work and working alongside their French friends.  They were very excited when a package from Les Platanes, our KS1 French partnership school, arrived recently.  The box was full of interesting and exciting things.  The children from Les Platanes had sent photographs of themselves and introduced themselves.  There were also pictures which the children had drawn for their English friends and a selection of some French snacks to try, including Petite Madeleines and Caramel Waffles.  The children happily tucked into these treats and enjoyed trying something new which they’d never had before.  Also in the box was Jack the puppet.  He has come to spend some time at St. Cuthbert’s with us to learn about life in an English school and how it is similar and/or different from life in a French school.

Year 2 then created a parcel to send back to their French friends, including postcards celebrating the link between our two schools and countries and introduced themselves.  We also added some English treats for them to try!  Paddington was very excited to go on the trip – he was given the job of looking after the gifts and he promised not to eat the snacks during the journey!  Lastly, we added an English and a French version of the original ‘Paddington’ story by Michael Bond for our French friends to enjoy.

Last week, we found out that our package had arrived safely and that our French friends had enjoyed unpacking the box and enjoyed the treats and books!  We can’t wait to hear about Paddington’s adventures in France!
