Recently, children in Year 3 enjoyed a visit from two international students, one from China and one from the Ukraine, as part of the ‘Scholars in Schools’ programme.
This is a programme led by Durham University which brings students from around the world into local schools to share information about their home country and culture. The project supports schools in the county in the delivery of key British values, including understanding cultures, traditions and ways of life different from our own, and showing respect for those of different nationalities, faiths and beliefs.
Firstly, the children learnt about life in Ukraine, including the culture, the flag, the food and where Ukraine is in Europe. The children then explored Chinese myths and drew their own zodiac.
It was an exciting and interesting afternoon for all involved. Thank you Lijie and Sima for visiting us and teaching us about your home countries!
