Curious Cats

During PE this half-term, Year 2 have been exploring showing emotion and character through dance.  The children have been thinking about cats and how they move in lots of different ways in a variety of situations.  They explored movements of ‘lazy cats in the sunshine’, ‘mischievous cats playing together’ and ‘hunting cats prowling and pouncing’.  Using their ideas, they created a dance sequence for each, before combining them to tell a ‘day-in-the-life-of’ story of Slinky Malinki by Lynley Dodd.

The children thought carefully about how they, as humans, could appear more cat like.  They thought about how to show paws or claws instead of hands.  They thought about how cats greet each other, groom themselves and nuzzle their heads.

The children worked very hard during this topic, being very thoughtful and creative in showing different cats in different situations with different emotions very clearly through their movements.  Have a look at the pictures below…  Which types of cats and cat-behaviours can you see?
